Post-Baccs – Need help rewording statement below
Sometimes, as students we find that a Post-Bacc oppotunity may be of benefit when seeking more academic and technical support/experience before applying or committing to a graduate/med program. Post-Bacc opportunities may aid in getting a better understanding on the desired topics, receiving more hands-on experience, or simply when the timing does not line up for direct admittance into a higher degree-granting program. See below for some great opportunities if you find yourself wanting to pursue joining/applying to a Post-Bacc program:
American Physical Society (APS) Bridge Program
The APS Bridge Program is a post-baccalaureate program lasting one to two years that provides students with research experience, advanced coursework, and coaching to prepare them for a graduate school application.
Columbia: Bridge to the Ph.D. Program in STEM
The Bridge to the Ph.D. Program in STEM is designed to increase the participation of students from underrepresented groups in Ph.D. programs in STEM disciplines. The Bridge Program is an intensive research, academic, and mentoring experience for post-baccalaureates seeking to strengthen their graduate school applications and to prepare for the transition into Ph.D. programs.
National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIH) Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)(R25)
PREP awards encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds who hold a recent baccalaureate degree in a biomedically relevant area of study to pursue a research-focused doctoral degree (for examples of groups underrepresented in the biomedical sciences see the Notice of NIH’s Interest in Diversity). PREP participants receive support to work as apprentice scientists in a mentor’s laboratory and participate in courses for skills development. This program is expected to strengthen the research skills and academic competitiveness of participants for pursuit of rigorous, research-focused doctoral degree programs (e.g., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in biomedical fields.
